Feros Care

Case Study

Aged and community care provider Feros Care’s mission is to be a strong ambassador and partner in the lives of seniors, with a focus on creating a range of lifestyle options that support independence, social connectedness and healthy ageing. Always looking for new and smart ways to use technology to help them achieve their mission, Feros Care sought a Wi-Fi solution that would allow the organisation to provide high-definition video conferencing and VoIP phones to every bedside in its three residential villages.

Having undertaken considerable research on available products, Feros Care had clearly defined requirements and was seeking a solutions provider who not only had the necessary technical expertise but who had aged care sector experience and would work collaboratively with them.

Working hand-in-hand with Feros Care’s IT Department, Surecom’s first priority was to spend time on site auditing and analysing the aged care providers’ current technology and their use of it so as to advise on the most scalable and flexible solution. As part of this exercise experienced technicians heat-mapped each site to ensure ultimate Wi-Fi coverage. Surecom then upgraded the existing cabling backbone and installed Wi-Fi standard, 802.11ac infrastructure from Aruba Networks across Feros Care’s three sites.

“Surecom took the time to really understand our organisation, who we are and how we operate, before implementing any technology. They collaborated well with our team and are a valued partner.” Glenn Payne, CIO Feros Care

Feros Care Benefits

  • The Wi-Fi network forms the communications backbone for Feros Care’s pilot telehealth program which uses video conferencing with GPs and specialists for residents with complex needs.
  • The same infrastructure is also enabling the residents’ social connectedness via internet access, video-conferencing and phone calls with friends and family and also online bingo.
  • Surecom’s configuration also included the establishment of centralised management of the network for all three sites which means easier and more efficient management of the infrastructure by Feros Care’s IT Department via remote monitoring and administration.
  • In addition, the Wi-Fi network supports SIP based Wi-Fi handsets which will enable better communications between staff and therefore better and timelier resident care.

Furthermore, the solution implemented is capable of scaling and flexing with Feros Care’s future technology needs including using this same infrastructure as the backbone for Wi-Fi Nurse Call.
